A few days ago, after leaving Williston, ND, I hurt my right knee and had to ride in the sag vehicle for a couple of days. No big deal, but I wanted to confess before some investigative reporter published it in USA Today, or the the breaking story ran on CNN all day. "Fatman lies! Says he pedaled across America." Well, I rode in a car a few hundred miles, and I approve this message.
Two days ago, we had a slight tail wind. I pedaled 94 miles in about 5 1/2 hours giggling all the way. Didn't stop even once for the first 77.45 miles. I was afraid that the wind would change directions. Next day I pedaled a mere 62 miles and really hurt myself. I'm not complaining. Just want you to know why I'll be in the car for a while. Confession is not easy. I know at least a few of you are laughing at this sorry old man. But ca y est. que sera, sera. Yet this doesn't get me down. Still too high on America.

I'm not laughing at you. I think what you are doing is awesome. Even driving across country is an adventure. All of your stories, including the shared ride, make up the fabric of your wonderful adventure. Not much new in NYC. Lots of mosquitoes. I asked my neighbor, Mario, why he doesn't get bitten and he explained that he has an arrangement with the bugs around here :)
You know, all that preemptive self-deprecation really takes all the fun out of mocking you.
hey mike, nothing sorry about you, an amazing journey! we've been following every blog, only wish there were more! Mayree has been filling me in. garden looking good, so far mostly critterfree, tomato, bean, cuc plants staked up. good luck with the knee.
i haven't ridden my bike very much recently, but a few weeks ago i ran up one side of mt. stimson in about an hour, sooo. when you come to beat the crap out of me, i'll be running. on all 16 tentacles, beak a snapping and eyeballs roving wildly.
Quitter!
you can relax in my new blue rubber pool when you get here. 15'by42". almost done filling it now. marco polo anyone?
Mike,
Good idea to take a break if injured. No sense to push yourself too much. A couple of hundred miles makes no difference in the big scheme of things. Hope you are all right by now. Nothing much over here, except that it has been a year and it's time for the next round of layfoffs. I am beginning to believe it will never end. Cheers anyway...Jurek.
